Liberty Chapel Cemetery Area Landowners - prior to 1910
For: Liberty Chapel Cemetary Records and Website
By: Grady L. McFarland
Following is a listing of land ownership of SOME families connected with
Liberty Chapel. These are records of property bought or homesteaded from
the USA. Date of deed does NOT always give a true idea of when or if,
person moved on land. Example: John A Allbright moved to just North of
Liberty Chapel prior to 1880, but did not get title/deed until 1903.
I did NOT research private land sale records, as most of the early
records have been destroyed.
Liberty Chapel property is located in the NW/4 of SW/4 of Sec 16 - T8N -
R2W. There is only 120 ac of privately-owned land in Sec 16 - remainder
is owned by US Forest Service.
Most of the original private land was obtained by the US Forest Service
in the 1930's when Kisatchie National Forest was formed. There are
scattered plots of privately retained land throughout this area.
Swafford heirs still retain ownership of Swafford block land. I did not
trace down current ownership of most private tracts.
Land descriptions are listed as Section # - Township # - Range #.
Range location is 2 West unless so noted. Ones listed are in the Liberty
Chapel vicinity. Consult a Forest Service or parish section map for
location proximity.
